Actor Idris Elba has tested positive for the coronavirus.

The popular UK actor broke the news on Twitter Monday, via a video in which he appears next to his wife, Sabrina, while appealing for unity in this time of global crisis.

He also reassured viewers that he “feels ok” so far, and that he has made the decision to self-isolate.

In his caption for the video post, Elba wrote, “This morning I tested positive for Covid 19. I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus. Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I’m doing. No panic.”

In the video itself, the actor reveals that he was tested for the virus last Friday after someone he had contact with had tested positive. He has been self-isolating ever since, and received the results Monday morning.

“Look, this is serious,” Elba says. “Now is the time to really think about social distancing, washing your hands.”

He goes on to stress the need for “transparency,” calling on people who are feeling symptoms and think they may have been exposed to “do something about it” and be tested.

“We live in a divided world right now – we can all feel it,” he said. I”t’s been bulls–t. But now is the time for solidarity, now is the time for thinking about each other.”

He ends by saying, “Stay positive. Don’t freak out.”

The “Luther” star is the latest actor to test positive, including Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson and former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko.
